Black Ram Farm Sheep Running

Black Ram Farm Sheep

The sheep at Black Ram farm are all Merinos.

Merino is a specific breed of sheep that can be found in different colors and different patterns. Merinos are characterized by their super fine and soft fleece and are considered a wool breed. There are different stains of the breed found throughout the world and we carry the A Type Vemont style, C type and a combination between the two types. We carry white, black, moorit colored merinos and we also have badger pattern and piebald in black and moorit.

Most of our white merinos have a color marker and can produce black and moorit lambs. Our few white ADMRA registed merinos will only carry white. We have both polled and horned rams.

Merinos are out of season breeders, which means that they are able to breed and lamb at any time of the year. We generally lamb year round and hope to continue with lambs arriving in the fall of 2008. Because of the small size of our flock, this approach makes sense for us.

This year we will shear in late August. We are reserving most of our wool clip for our Adopt A Sheep Program. For more information on Merinos please check out our VT. Merino History page and our sheep links.
